Gear Review: Slumberjack In-Season 2 & Big Lux Cot

When you are camping for an extended period of time, you want to make sure that you can get a good nights sleep or the trip can really began to wear you down. In my case, I am on a three month, 4,000+ mile assisted bicycle trip, and getting quality rest is critical to maintaining a high level of physical activity. Since I am assisted by a chase vehicle, the weight of a tent and cot were not an issue, so I looked for comfort and convenience.

Slumberjack provided us with an In-Season 2 Tent and Big Lux Cot.

The tent is unique because it has three doors which is super convenient for quickly loading gear in and out. It sets up quickly (in less than 5 minutes) with a six pole system, has four windows that provide adequate ventilation, and a rain cover which has stood up to the test of several heavy rainstorms. I sleep on the Slumberjack Big Lux Cot every night, which has a built in sleeping pad and fits perfectly inside the two man tent. The cot will only sleep one, but since it’s just me it’s a perfect setup. As someone with a bad back, I have a fully compressed L4 and L5 vertebra, I was worried about having chronic back pain throughout the trip. I have been pleasantly surprised by the comfort and quality of sleep I get on the cot. The cot quickly folds up and I can completely setup and breakdown camp within 10 minutes.

My favorite feature is the three doors on the tent. After a long day on the bike, I can quickly setup camp and lay on the cot enjoying a breeze and the surrounding views of the Rocky Mountains.
